How dangerous diabetes is?
We may sometimes overlook the symptoms of diabetes that propagate deep within our body. It's time to be aware.
Diabetes
- One of the biggest and ever increasing problem the world is facing today. It is
one of the dreaded disease. It is estimated that 415 million people are living
with diabetes in the world, which is estimated to be 1 in 11 of
the world's adult population (35+ years age). 46% of people with diabetes
are undiagnosed. The figure is expected to rise to 642 million people living
with diabetes worldwide by 2040 which is so huge in number and difficult
to control. One of the main reasons of this hefty number is people are not
educated about it and it's possible adverse effects in the body. It badly
affects your kidneys and pancreas which are the main organs for flushing out
the toxins from the body.
Initial symptoms of diabetes
include:
- Frequent urination
- Slow healing of wounds
- Irresistible hunger
- Excessive thirst
- Blurry vision
The list
does not end here, there are many more symptoms for the problem. There are two
main types of diabetes: type 1 and type 2. Both types of
diabetes are chronic diseases that affect the way your body regulates blood
sugar, or glucose. Glucose is the fuel that feeds your body's cells, but to
enter your cells it needs Insulin. Type 2 diabetes is called
non-insulin-dependent diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is often a milder
form of diabetes than type 1. With Type 2 diabetes, the
pancreas usually produces some insulin. But either the amount produced is not
enough for the body's needs, or the body's cells are resistant to it.
Type 1 diabetes
Type 1 diabetes is presumed to be an autoimmune
condition. This means your immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the
beta cells in your pancreas that produce insulin. The damage is
permanent.
What
prompts the attacks isn’t clear. There may be both genetic and environmental
reasons. Lifestyle factors aren’t thought to play a role.
Type 2 diabetes
Type 2 diabetes starts as insulin resistance.
This means your body can’t use insulin efficiently. That stimulates your
pancreas to produce more insulin until it can no longer keep up with demand.
Insulin production decreases, which leads to high blood sugar.
The exact
cause of type 2 diabetes is unknown. Contributing factors may include:
- genetics
- lack of exercise
- being overweight
There may
also be other health factors and environmental reasons.
In order
to avoid diabetes, I would suggest to adopt a healthy lifestyle, incorporate it
with a good quality food and abundance of exercise to keep insulin levels in
control. Keep a weight check, calorie check, BMI and BMR check to keep the
problem in control.
People
with a history of diabetes in their family should be extra conscious regarding
their health.
